About Bill
I am an experienced business and community leader, software entrepreneur, and educator with a passion for community service and a deep commitment to Timnath’s past, present, and future.
My wife, son, and I live in Timnath Ranch and proudly call Timnath home. We moved here in 2017 because of the town’s proximity to outdoor recreation opportunities, high-quality schools, and small-town character. We could have lived elsewhere, but we were drawn to Timnath’s distinctive sense of place, which is rooted in the area’s rich agrarian history and is still embodied by the town’s historic town center. I am equally inspired by the future Timnath that residents charted for themselves in the town’s comprehensive plan.
My educational and professional background includes scientific research, higher education and business leadership. I was a research scientist and educator at the University of California San Francisco from 1980 to 1996. In 1995, I founded the educational software company, Scientific Learning, based on neuroscience research and grew it from a small startup to a publicly traded company on Wall Street in 1999. Subsequently, I was the chief technology officer at Sally Ride Science, a small STEM educational company, from 2012 to 2014.
Now retired, I am a part-time substitute teacher within the Poudre School District. I am a 2023 graduate of Northern Colorado’s Leveraging Local Leaders training program. This six-month long program focused on professional development to “think and act differently in the spirit of collaboration, problem-solving, and pragmatic leadership in order to keep our regional economy strong for generations to come.” I was the founding and now past president of Guide Our Growth, a 501(c)(4) non-profit, which won an overwhelming victory at the ballot box for Timnath residents in 2023. I have served on the Carnegie Learning Literacy Advisory Board. I previously was a Larimer County CASA volunteer for children involved with dependency and neglect cases, and I served on the boards of two home owners associations. All these experiences have prepared me to be able to deal with complex issues, staff development, large budgets, civic engagement and make sound decisions on behalf of the citizens of Timnath.
